IIE-SEDF INITITIVES ON SME DEVELOPMENT IN NER
Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) has been working in association with South Asia Enterprise Development Facility (An organization of World Bank Group based at Dhaka) for increasing availability of need based Business Development Services useful for the Small and Medium sector (SME) enterprises of the northeast in enhancing their competitive edge. In this direction the first step was taken during March 2003 when a Focused Group Discussion with the SME Service providers of the region and policy makers was organized at IIE to assess the specific need of business development services in the northeast and devise strategy to make the SMEs of the region more vibrant and gear up to face the challenges after globalisation of the economy through capacity enhancement of the existing business service providers of the region. As a follow up to the discussion, Shri Deepak Adhikary, Programme Mamanger SEDF and Ms. Narissa Haider again visited IIE during June 2003 and held discussions with few existing business service providers to assess the need and specific areas where SEDF’s intervention would be useful for expansion of business development services in the northeast. As an outcome of the endeavor, made by SEDF and IIE in this direction, three prospective business development service providers of the region have entered in to an agreement with SEDF for SME growth of the region.
